In 1867, Camille Pissarro lived at the bottom of the Hermitage hill in Pontoise. He painted over 30 views of the hill or the houses there. An important Impressionist, he participated in all eight Impressionist exhibitions and was a friend of Cezanne, Gauguin, Monet, Degas, Van Gogh and Seurat.
